SAN DIEGO -- Brie Larson, suit up. The Oscar winner is, officially, one of the most powerful superheroes in the comicbook movie universe.

Larson was reportedly in talks for the role earlier this year, and Disney/Marvel was able to close her deal in time for a Comic-Con appearance. Larson, who won Best Actress for her role in Room, will be the first person to portray Carol Danvers onscreen.

As Captain Marvel, Danvers is one of the most powerful individuals in Marvel Comics -- the closest thing they have to Superman.

To call Captain marvel an Alpha hero is putting it mildly. And though her standalone movie doesn't come until 2019, she's almost guaranteed to show up in a Marvel movie before that, such as 2018's Infinity War: Part 1 or earlier.

And there is a very good chance that the future of Marvel movies will revolve around her.

It looked like Larson -- who had appeared in Hall H hour before for the Kong: Skull Island panel -- was not going to be made official on Saturday night as many had expected. The entire Marvel panel's stars were assembling for a big group photo to end the affair when moderator Chris Hardwicke noted that there was one person missing.

"We might as well complete the Marvel family for this photo," he said.

That's when Larson walked out to join them -- knowing that in character, she could probably kick all their asses.

It's good to be the Captain.
