British people are going through very uncertain times after the Brexit vote. But worry no more: The government has a plan, and what a plan!

Environment secretary Andrea Leadsom has just announced in Paris an "ambitious new action plan" to grow exports by selling... British jam, tea and biscuits to Japan.

If you think this is a parody, think twice. The 'International Action Plan for Food and Drink' has identified nine markets across 18 countries with a hunger for classic British items.

These are the main targets:

  • An extra £185 million in exports to Japan meeting demand for classic British products like tea, jam and biscuits and new opportunities for British beef

  • An additional £293 million of exports to Australia and New Zealand, where there’s a growing thirst for our beer and cider

  • A £215 million export boost in Mexico and Latin America through growing demand for a wide range of British products including our whisky and gin

So this is the grand British plan for Brexit everyone was waiting for.

And naturally people had some strong feelings on Twitter:
