LONDON -- British celebrities -- including Ricky Gervais, Lily Allen and Ellie Goulding -- have joined the fight against Donald Trump's "Muslim ban". More than 1 million Brits signed a petition over the weekend calling for the government to stop Trump's state visit to the UK.

In the midst of widespread protests across America, UK celebrities, politicians and journalists expressed their ire on social and called on Prime Minister Theresa May to take decisive action against Trump. Singer Ellie Goulding called the ban "terrifying".

Ricky Gervais expressed pride for those rising up against Trump's ban.

Meanwhile, Trainspotting actor Ewan McGregor asked people to take a stand.

Lily Allen drew a parallel with another period of history as a stark warning to those who remain silent.

Actor David Schneider made a comical observation:

The writer of Black Mirror had strong words for Theresa May, and urged people to sign the petition.

Novelist and journalist Caitlin Moran urged followers to support and subscribe to newspapers challenging Trump in their journalism.

Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain expressed her sadness for what's happening.

And Rogue One actor Riz Ahmed urged followers to "fight fear with love" and donate to Syrian refugee children.
