It's suffice to say that Sasha Baron Cohen, a.k.a. Borat, Bruno and Ali G, is one for a shocking stunt, but an aborted plan would've been one for Australian history.

Cohen was the centre of a celebrity AMA (ask me anything) on reddit Wednesday, to help promote his upcoming film The Brothers Grimsby. In it, he dropped a bombshell about the day he almost changed the course of Australia political history.

In his AMA, Cohen answered a variety of questions about his characters, including what the worst part of filming Borat was (the naked wrestling scene) and what character he enjoys playing the most (Bruno, because of hygiene.)

It was an answer to a question on what he regretted most that will have Aussie fans realising 2009 could have been a much better year. Cohen was on an Australian talk show called Rove Live, as his flamboyant Austrian alter-ego Bruno, when he found out the gawky former prime minster of Australia, Kevin Rudd, was also booked for the same show.

A "massive mistake" by the talent booker, Cohen said. "I had a strip tease routine fully planned, including tearaway pants and this g-string. And my intention was to lap dance the Prime Minister of Australia, and stick my crotch in his face," he added.

Cohen said it would have been an international incident that would have seen him kicked out and banned from Australia. So he wimped out. It was then barred by Rudd's security. Classic Rudd.

One could imagine the headlines and the comments from stern-faced politicians that would have made the rounds following the incident, if it had gone ahead. Unfortunately, the fantasy of Bruno's crotch in Rudd's face is all we have to clutch on to.
