A Buddhist temple in Myanmar has been swallowed by floodwaters in the wake of heavy monsoon rains.

Footage shows the pagoda slowly sinking into floodwaters, before eventually disappearing completely into the Irrawaddy River -- the country's largest that flows from north to south.

Here's the dramatic moment it happened:

As well as the full footage of the incident:

The footage was taken by a Buddhist monk from the temple, who said the pagoda was destroyed last Thursday.

"This pagoda was built in 2009, when it was far away from the river," Monk Pyinnya Linkara told newswire AFP.

"Year by year, the river has eroded the land, and now the pagoda has fallen into the river."

At least two people have died and 90,000 displaced by floods across Myanmar.

Monsoon rains hits the country in early July, and has led to even entire riverside villages being washed away.

"The villagers are now scared to live here," Pyinnya Linkara said, speaking to Reuters. "The flooding has now decreased, but erosion continues."
