You may believe the hype.

The much-anticipated Captain Marvel had its first screenings on Tuesday night, and the first audiences to watch the film have described it as unlike any other MCU film they've seen before, and weirder than you'd expect.

The main take away? Well, as Mashable's Angie Han put it...

Other critics and viewers thought there was a strong, nostalgic '90s feel to the film, and yep, you bet it's going to be a lot of fun.

As you'd expect, Brie Larson is brilliant as Carol Danvers, an Earthling who gained some powers but has lost memory. Your new hero is here.

There are also plaudits for Ben Mendelsohn's performance as Talos, the leader of the Skrulls.

And you can expect a certain cat named Goose to steal the show, too.

Even though Captain Marvel might feature a whole bunch of new characters, technologies, and even a time period we haven't seen before, there are allusions to the MCU you should keep an eye out for.

Mere mortals like us can see Captain Marvel in cinemas from Mar. 8.
