Making your own license plate is illegal, even if it is a very pretty license plate.

A woman in Springville, New York was arrested Wednesday when police caught her driving with a plate she'd constructed herself.

While a good effort, her creation is fairly distinguishable from an actual New York state license plate, pictured below.

The county sheriff's office was quick to post photos of the artisanal plate -- which was made from cardboard and what appears to be tempera paint -- to Facebook.

"In case you are wondering, homemade cardboard license plates are NOT legal," the post read.

This license plate is adorable, but it's generally a bad idea to break the law. Might we suggest an Etsy shop instead?
