The stream of police shootings replayed on social media can take a toll on one's mental health. With the ongoing coverage of the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile this week, we have seen the shootings play out on screens repeatedly.
#CarefreeBlackKids2k16 has risen on Twitter in the midst of these tragedies to combat the steady stream of distressful news.
The hashtag was started by Heben Nigatu, co-host for BuzzFeed's Another Round podcast and writer for The Daily Show with Stephen Colbert. The short clips of gleeful black children have provided a respite for many Twitter users, who have expressed gratitude for a bit of good in their timelines.
