Celebrity clapbacks and roasted trolls took center stage this September

Comebacks made for the history books.

Social media is a place to document your thoughts, collect information and find the most epic clapbacks of 2017. And September proved to a beautiful month for clapbacks.

Essentially a clapback is a fiery comeback to someone’s insult or remark. Merriam-Webster, what are you waiting for? If you can add "troll," "clapback" should be next—and get Google involved so the number one search for "clapback" isn't just a 2003 album by Ja Rule.

For celebrities like Rihanna and Cher, who are pros at speaking their minds on the internet, the world's current dire situation has left many openings for them to put people in their place.

Here are a few of the best celebrity clapbacks from the past month and may October be an even better time to roast the hell out everyone:

1. History Lesson

There’s no point in going against the mega star and troll slayer that is Cher. After Cher promised to take in Dreamers that might be affected by Trump's proposed rolling back of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals act, some questioned her.

It takes great bravery to respond after Cher gave you eyesight.

2. Movie Theater Etiquette

Finn Wolfhard, the 14-year-old Stranger Things actor, had a tweet that garnered so much attention online that beauty guru James Charles deleted his tweet about disliking IT and even issued an apology video. Don’t mess with anyone from Stranger Things, especially one that's dealt with a place called the Upside Down. Just don’t.

3. The Meatpacking Defeat

Wendy's vs. Carl's Jr.: It’s the modern day Capulets and Montagues. Wendy's isn't new to the roasting game and is constantly going up against their competitors, so Carl’s Jr. isn't getting treated any different. They've just been served on a plastic platter.

4. Presidential Style

Sometimes the best way to come back from an insult is with class. Teaching someone a lesson can go a long way and can be the best at insulting someone’s intelligence and integrity. Hillary Clinton gave us the basically embodiment of the 💁 emoji.

5. Model Behavior

Chrissy Teigen isn’t afraid to speak her mind on Twitter. She doesn’t have a problem tackling trolls and always uses humor against politics.

6. One Direction 4ever

Louis Tomlinson may be the clapback king among his former One Direction bandmates. Don’t underestimate his ability to put you in your place when you accuse him of being a disloyal friend to Niall Horan.

7. This Is The End

Seth Rogen decided to take the high road and stopped himself from debating with a journalist about a fabricated article made about him. However, the Pineapple Express comedian didn’t mind slipping in an insult just to end the conversation. Classic Seth.

8. Two Words.

Sometimes the best clapbacks are short and sarcastic. Insecure’s Issa Rae, known for her jokes and powerful scenes, needed just two words to make one troll’s tweet seem meaningless about her answers on the Emmys' red carpet this year.

9. Slam Dunk King

NBA star Lebron James took to Twitter this month to respond to President Trump's tweet about Stephen Curry. The President disinviting the Golden State Warrior player's to the White House and Lebron was not having it. James was quick to point out the craziness of this situation: you can't disinvite someone who already said they weren't attending. And he gave Trump a classic new nickname in the process.

Thank all, for putting your Twitter fingers to use and making September a clapback month to remember.
