Celebrities share heartfelt and funny messages from home while self-isolating

As the coronavirus pandemic continues across the world, more and more people are practicing social distancing measures, or self-isolating at home to help stop the spread.

Celebrities are no exception.

Over the past week or so, actors, singers, and late night hosts have been confined to their (undeniably luxe) houses. Many of them have taken to Instagram and Twitter to post updates, offer support, or simply to share how they're filling their days.

Yes, a few of the videos have been a little cringey. But some of them have also been glorious. From Sam Neill's shoe update to Sam Smith's moving message, we've rounded them up below...

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's Shaun of the Dead parody

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost decided to resurrect their Shaun of the Dead characters for short — but beautifully executed – coronavirus skit. The toilet roll bit at the end is on point.

This delightful stress-management advice from Judi Dench

Judi Dench's daughter, Flinty Williams, shared a "Message from Ma" on Twitter and it's just what we need right now. "Oh," says Dench in the video, wearing a dog-shaped hat. "There you are! Just keep laughing. That's all we can do."

Gal Gadot's celebrity-packed rendition of "Imagine"

While not everyone was a fan of Gal Gadot's rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine," the Wonder Woman actor certainly didn't skimp on the star-power. And it seemed well intentioned enough (even if it did miss the opportunity to raise much-needed money).

Conan O'Brien's toilet paper life hacks

"People are going to stores, and they seem to want more toilet paper than they could ever use in a six-year period, if they had continual diarrhoea," says Conan O'Brien in the sketch above. "And now it's gone. It's all gone, and people are panicking."

Fortunately, he has a solution – and it's just as ridiculous as you'd expect.

Arnold Schwarzenegger hanging out with his four-legged friends

Yep, Arnold Schwarzenegger is in quarantine with a miniature horse and donkey.

"See that's what we do, we don't go out, we don't go to restaurants, we don't do anything like that anymore here," he says, after feeding carrots to hairy friends. "We just eat with Whisky and with Lulu, we have a good time."

Trevor Noah attempting to sing from his balcony

"So I've been inspired by Italy and I figure, why don't we do this in New York?" says The Daily Show host Trevor Noah from his Manhattan balcony, shortly before belting out a rendition of "A Whole New World," from Aladdin.

It doesn't quite go according to plan, though.

Sam Neill's shoe update

Sam Neill is always good value on Twitter, and the past few days have been no exception.

"Yesterday, I did something really useful," he says in one post. "I laundered all my sneakers. And I made quite a discovery: I didn't realise I had so many shoes that are pretty much exactly the same. But boy, do they smell good."

Ellen FaceTiming Tiffany Haddish

Ellen DeGeneres has basically spent quarantine showing off just how many famous people she has in her contacts (in fairness, it's an undeniably impressive list). In the clip above she casually FaceTimes Tiffany Haddish to talk about her new haircut, and her gardening plans.

Miley Cyrus starting up her own Instagram show

While most celebrities have shared one-off messages and videos, Cyrus is really going all-in. She's started her own daily Instagram show, "Bright Minded", which features her famous friends as guests and discusses "how to stay LIT in dark times."

Reese Witherspoon social distancing with Laura Dern

The Big Little Lies stars went on a hike together, but they made sure to stay a safe distance apart. Good to see.

Mindy Kaling taking quarantine style next-level

Just because you're stuck at home, doesn't mean you can't look fabulous, right?

Millie Bobby Brown's touching message for her family

The Stranger Things star took part in the hashtag #istayhomefor, which encourages people to share their reasons for following the social distancing guidelines that are in place to ease the spread of coronavirus.

Taylor Swift's feline snap

Swift was quick to point out that our feline friends regularly engage in self-quarantine – including her well-hidden cat, Meredith.

"Be like Meredith," wrote Swift. Wise words.

Elizabeth Banks' recipe for self-isolation success

"Hot shower, cozy PJs, a hair mask, tequila and this mantra: Keep Calm," wrote Banks.

You can't argue with that.
