Celine Dion rightfully picked up the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, her first televised performance since the deaths of both her husband and brother.

After singing a powerful cover of Queen's "The Show Must Go On," she was overcome with emotion when she realized her son, Rene Charles, was presenting her with the award.

"I'm so sorry. I -- I'm sorry for crying. I want to be strong for my family and my kids. And I didn't expect that. I'm so sorry. I don't want to cry in front of you. You make me so happy. Thank you."

"Do you mind just standing next to me?" she asked her fifteen-year-old son, who dutifully obliged.

"My friends. All the people who believed in me. My family. My mom who wrote my first song, my children, Rene Charles, Nelson and Eddy," said Dion, "And most importantly, my beloved husband whom I know will continue to watch over me from up above."

Dion's husband of 22 years, René Angélil, died in January 2016 and her brother, Daniel, died just two days later. Since then, Dion has returned to her Vegas residency, but the Billboard Awards marked her return to television.
