It appears that CES can't handle, well, CES.

The Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center lost power Wednesday afternoon, shutting down booths and leaving thousands of exhibitors and press wandering around in darkness.

For a brief and beautiful moment, the sounds of a violin echoed throughout the cavernous hall, and those stranded began to randomly cheer and stomp (really).

The official CES Twitter account weighed in on the madness.

Meanwhile, at least one attendee had a theory.

UPDATE: Jan. 10, 2018, 4:03 p.m. PST Power has been restored at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

UPDATE: Jan. 10, 2018, 2:17 p.m. PST The Las Vegas Visitor and Convention Authority, NV Energy, and the Consumer Technology Association issued an official joint statement on the blackout, blaming the power outage on Tuesday's rain.

"A preliminary assessment indicates that condensation from heavy rainfall caused a flashover on one of the facility's transformers," the statement read in part. "We are grateful to NV Energy for their swift assistance, to our customers and their clients for their patience and to the staff for ensuring the safety and security of all attendees and exhibitors."
