A male college student has become an ally to menstruating women everywhere.

Chance Ward was working out at a gym when he overheard someone ask her friend for a tampon. When she realized Ward had overheard, she became embarrassed and apologized to him.

Instead of accepting her apology, Ward shocked her with his response.

He said he could help, "before reaching down into my fanny pack and giving her one of the tampons I keep in there," Ward wrote in a Facebook post.

The mere idea of a male carrying tampons is so simple, yet it still may seem surprising. In an era when female menstruation is slowly becoming less taboo, society still has a lot of work to do

Ward is just one instance of how young men can approach periods in a helpful and understanding way, without shaming females for their natural bodily functions.

Since Ward's story was posted to Facebook on March 22, it has received almost 40,000 likes and a mention from Nicki Minaj.

After the attention, Ward acknowledged it on Facebook.

Here's hoping Ward's kindness will inspire others to change the menstruation stigma to, in his words, a "menstruation celebration."
