Emoji have reached high fashion status.

On Tuesday, Karl Lagerfeld played a game of hide and seek as he showcased Chanel's fall 2016 collection in Paris.

Upon first glance, most show-goers missed the popular images of cats, thumbs-up hands, peace signs, clovers and flowers mixed in with the Chanel logo.

Known for his elaborate themes and dramatic runways (in 2014 he turned the entire venue into a Chanel supermarket), this season Lagerfeld's show seemed a bit more low key. We should have known there was a hint of whimsy lying under the surface.

Perhaps the cat image made an appearance as a nod to Lagerfeld's famous feline, Choupette, who has her own Wikipedia page and over 80,000 Instagram followers. That's one popular pet.

According to the kitty's social media accounts, the brooches worn by the models and front row VIP were most definitely in honor of her.

With young it-girl Willow Smith announcing shortly after the show her role as the brand's newest ambassador, it's no surprise that the 107-year-old fashion house would remain relevant and fresh by incorporating modern emoji into its collection.
