Twitter users helped reunite long-lost BFFs and it was the purest thing ever

We all remember that one temporary childhood best friend who, for some reason or another, got away. Not many of us can say that the internet made it their personal mission to reunite us, though.

But such is the case for these 24-hour vacation besties, brought back together after twelve long years apart thanks to a viral Twitter post with 94,000 retweets (and counting).

Yesterday, Mississippian Brianna Cry tweeted her plea to the internet with a 2006 picture of her with a girl whom the Daily Mail identifies as a Californian artist named Heidi.

The two were on a dinner cruise over a decade ago, and "were basically best friends for that night," Cry wrote in the original post, "so I need y’all to help me find my best friend cause I miss her and I need to see how she’s doing now."

Less than twelve hours later, the garbage fire we call Twitter pulled through on one of its purest good deeds.

"Heard you were looking for me," Heidi responded simply, holding proof in the form of a selfie with a picture of her family on what appears to be the very same cruise. Cry was quick to tweet back, "omg my heart is so happy."

And yours should be too, unless you're totally dead inside.

Apparently Heidi hadn't even logged onto Twitter in years, returning once her friends let her know what was happening. When she signed back in, "the first thing I see is a search party for my ass."

When many followed up to ask if the two had taken their rekindling into DMs, Heidi responded, "Yes!! This morning has been wild."

Cry told BuzzFeed News that they're doing what long-lost best friends do, exchanging stories to make sure the other is "caught up on life and school and everything."

Of course, Twitter immediately went on to demand more emotional payoff for its part in the making their virtual reunion happen. Many called for an IRL meet up. But no great meet-cute happens without overcoming its own set of hurdles.

A speedy real-world reunion was unlikely since they go to schools on opposite sides of the country. "I’m going to community college on financial aid 😂😂😂 I’m not going anywhere anytime soon," Heidi tweeted.

Naturally, a Go Fund Me to help them cropped up almost immediately. But it appears to be a false flag operation, with Heidi cautioning that neither she nor Cry had been contacted about it yet.

If we know the internet, though, it's not gonna give up that easy.

It's probably only a matter of time before some benefactor(s) help fix their financial obstacles. We give it another week at most before we get a reunion selfie recreating that original 2006 pic that sparked one of the best Twitter intervention stories ever.
