Chinese airliner, Capital Airlines, avoided a possible flight disaster on Monday, when an observant passenger spotted a flat tyre on one of its planes before takeoff.

The passenger who goes by the username "Rice Ice Cream" on Chinese social network, Weibo, was boarding Flight JD5158 at Kunming Airport when she noticed something amiss with one of the tyres on the plane. The domestic flight was bound for Hangzhou, China, reported People's Daily.

The plane was immediately evacuated and the flight delayed by three hours, so engineers could investigate the matter. It was found that the plane's tyre was damaged on the inside, which caused it to flatten. The tyre was replaced and the plane was given the okay to fly.

"I'm not sure if I should be happy or angry," wrote Rice Ice Cream. "If I hadn't brought this up and the plane took off in that state, what would have happened? It's so scary just thinking about it!"

The incident has caused netizens to question Capital Airlines' pre-flight safety checks. Many were enraged that no one had spotted the damage, and passengers' lives were put in danger.

Capital Airlines later issued an apology on its Weibo account.
