The former chairman of Shanghai food company Guan Sheng Yuan Co. Ltd., Weng Mao, died after he was struck in the head by a falling rock that a monkey had pushed.

Although Weng was immediately rushed to the Xiuwu County People's Hospital following the accident, he succumbed to his injuries and died.

The 67-year-old Weng was visiting the nature reserve as part of a photo shooting activity organised by the Shanghai Yelv Travel Agency.

Weng is known to his former employees and family as a photography enthusiast. The company Weng worked at before retiring, Guan Sheng Yuan, is best known for producing the White Rabbit candy.

Although an employee at the travel agency, Zhou Yi, has told reporters that the tragedy was an accident and the monkeys aren't to blame, the park is now closed for an investigation.

CCTV News reported that in recent years there have been increasing reports of people killed by falling rocks in China's scenic spots.

In 2015, seven tourists were killed by a large falling boulder at Caidie Mountain in Guilin.
