Fallen soldier's wife touches netizens with her courageous texts to another soldier

Zou found out through text message that her husband passed away, leaving her and a young son behind.

Yang Shupeng, a staff sergeant from Shandong, China, was one of two Chinese UN peacekeepers killed when clashes broke out on Friday in South Sudan.

Yang, 33, leaves behind a wife, Zou Lina, and a five-year old son. He was his parents' only child.

A text message exchange between the widow and one of Yang's fellow soldiers was posted to microblogging platform Weibo, and reveals Zou's heartbreaking realisation that her husband passed away.

On Sunday, Zou texted a soldier surnamed Wen to ask how Yang was. Wen replied, "Sister-in-law, I'm sorry!" and offered to visit her and Yang's family to pay their respects.

Zou responded: "Don't worry about me. You are all busy. I will take care of my family, We will be waiting for Yang Shupeng's [body] to come home.

"Please also send my regards to the other wounded comrades. Thank you."

Zou's strength and courage in her time of grief has touched many of Yang's fellow soldiers and netizens in China.

Yang's family continues to grieve their loss, especially the late soldier's young son, who told reporters: "When I grow up, I want to be like my father and serve our country, my father is a hero."
