Chloë Grace Moretz may have voiced Snow White for the now-vilified Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs, but the actress has publicly denounced the film's marketing materials.

"I have now fully reviewed the [marketing] for Red Shoes, I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn't approved by me or my team," Moretz tweeted on Wednesday.

Red Shoes drew major scrutiny earlier this week when a new poster asked "What if Snow White was no longer beautiful?" and next to a plus-size depiction of the main character. The teaser trailer shows Snow White undressing (while two hidden dwarfs watch from a hiding place) and reveals that the shoes are what make her appear thin and tall.

Moretz spoke out a day after the poster went viral, with Twitter users slamming it for negative messaging about body types.

Unmissed by some fans, however, was that her response to the promotional materials deliberately avoided accountability, implying that Moretz and her team were unaware of the film's premise...an idea that seems far-fetched at best. She may not have seen the terrible poster, but her voice in the trailer seems to suggest she had some idea what was going on.

It's not uncommon in Hollywood for actors to not read full scripts (some don't read at all), or for animated screenplays to have less direction and description than live-action. But Moretz went on to reference the script directly, which means that she read a version of it and did not find Snow White's character to be stigmatized in this manner.

"The actual story is powerful for young women and resonated with me. I am sorry for the offense that was beyond my creative control," she added in a third tweet.

For now, we'll have to see the full film to see if this version of events checks out.

Mashable reached out to Moretz's representatives for comment.
