Coincidence? Probably not.

The NFL randomly selected Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell for a drug test on Wednesday morning, but oh, does the timing seem far from "random."

Responsible for 18 of his team's 24 points on Sunday, Steelers kicker Chris Boswell pretty much "put the team on his back," as they say. His six field goals mark a career best, which makes this "random" drug test suspiciously not random.

Boswell tweeted the note taped to his locker, and seemed pretty skeptical.

Let's break out the (recent) history books for a second. This is Boswell's second season in the NFL. Last year, he notched four field goals in a game on three separate occasions. So a six-field goal game is high, sure, but not out of the question.

But this isn't the first time a kicker has been "randomly" drug tested.

Colts punter Pat McAfee absolutely laid out Broncos punt returner Trindon Holliday in 2013. Kickers aren't known for being particularly physical, so a day later, the NFL issued him a "random" drug test.

It happened again earlier this year, when McAfee joked about April 20, a celebratory day for marijuana enthusiasts, only to get a random drug test the next day.

So yeah, these drug tests' randomness stretch credibility.

But Boswell should take it as a compliment. After all, the NFL thinks only someone on PHDs could have pulled off such field goal mastery.
