TV show host and model Chrissy Teigen told PEOPLE magazine in an exclusive interview that she and her husband, John Legend, decided on the sex of their baby while going through in vitro fertilization.

“Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl,’” she said.

But not shortly after a preview of the story was posted online, Teigen faced backlash from her comments. She has always been outspoken when she has received hate before, having previously fought against Twitter trolls and body shammers. Last night was no different.

Choosing the sex of a baby during in vitro fertilization is a hot button issue. Eggs are fertilized outside of the body then implanted, using either donated eggs and sperm or parent's own. Some people, as one user expressed in a since deleted response to Teigen last night, that people who need in vitro simply aren't "meant" to have children.

She fired back at people critiquing the way she has decided to become a mother:

She even threw in some of her classic Teigen sass -- as always.

She also said she's open to different beliefs than her own.

However, that didn't stop some users, and Teigen was quick to shut them down.

Teigen continued to defend herself on her Twitter and post responses to some user's remarks, however, some have since deleted their tweets.

She ended the tweetstorm making a reference to Jeb Bush's remark at a campaign event after no one applauded.

In the interview with PEOPLE magazine, the mom-to-be expressed how excited she is for her husband, like many, to become "mushy" after having a daughter.

“It excited me to see … just the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond. A boy will come along. We’ll get there too, so it’s not like we really have to pick. But he definitely is very lucky to have a little girl. And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa — it’s crazy!" Teigen told PEOPLE.

The story will be on newsstands Friday.
