Around a year ago, we told you about the most uniquely designed smartphone we've seen in ages: The Runcible circular phone from Monohm. On Wednesday, the company announced that this quirky little mobile device is finally available for pre-order.

Priced at $399, the Runcible is housed in "reclaimed ocean plastic fished out of the Great Pacific Plastic Island," according to the company's website.

The wood-grain model that Monohm showed off at last year's Mobile World Congress will be offered as a special edition version. It will sell for $499. (This is roughly $100 less than the expected price listed in our first report.)

And despite its odd form factor, users will be able to pop their existing smartphone SIM cards into the device.

The only major difference from the initial version of the phone is the operating system. Instead of using Firefox OS (which Mozilla has stopped supporting), the device will use Monohm's Android-based BuniOS.

Other than a very brief hands-on last year, we don’t have much to go on in comparing it to existing smartphones on the market.

Nevertheless, if cutting-edge design is your priority, it will be hard for anyone to outdo you if you whip out this flying saucer-shaped smartphone on the street.

Monohm plans to begin shipping the Runcible to buyers this September.
