Nobody knows how to give compliments quite like the British.

There's a knack to it. It's important not to show too much enthusiasm, for one. You've got to hold something back. In fact the more reserved you can be, the better.

UK comedian James Acaster's father just gave a masterclass in this fine art.

It started when presenter Richard Osman tweeted an endorsement for Acaster's new Netflix stand-up show Repertoire.

A few minutes later, a man called David Acaster responded.

David, it turns out, is James' father. And he's not afraid to big his own son up on Twitter in the most British way possible.

It wasn't long before James himself picked up on his dad's tweet -- and his retweet quickly went viral.

Isn't there something so uniquely adorable and hilarious about that compliment?

No matter how understated it is, though, David is clearly a pretty proud dad.

"He's not for everyone but he works hard" definitely needs to be on all James' future promotional material.
