Instead of writing a traffic ticket, a Michigan cop decided to pay it forward to a father in need.

Officer Joshua Scaglione of the Westland police force recently stopped Lavante Dell for his tinted windows, but during the interaction, the cop noticed that Dell's 3-year-old daughter was sitting in the vehicle without a car seat.

When the officer asked Dell why his daughter was not in a car seat, he confessed that he couldn't afford to buy one.

So Scaglione decided to help him.

"He asked me do you need a car seat,' and I just looked at him," Dell told Fox 2 Detroit. "With hesitation I said, 'yeah.' And he asked me where I was going and I said to Westland Mall. He looked around and said, 'Can you follow me to Walmart?'"

Fox 2 reports that Scaglione used his own cash to purchase the child seat, and that he drove off before Dell had the opportunity to thank him. So Dell posted about his interaction on Facebook.

"He was really shocked he was set back and you know it's not generally what I was looking for," Scaglione told Fox 2. "I was just looking to help somebody out and pay it forward."

The Westland Police Department shared Dell's Facebook post, which has since racked up over 11,000 likes at the time of writing.

Since then, Fox 2 set up a meeting between the two, so that Dell could thank the officer in person.

"A thank you is appropriate but I still don't think this is enough," Dell told Fox 2
