The modern Y2K style resurgence has brought with it the ingenious reuse of the decade's most iconic devices, but ready-to-wear brand Coperni seems to be flipping the script by adding today's tech to 2000s-era accessories.

The label is giving its signature Swipe bag a CD-player punch-up for its Spring-Summer 2024 collection with its "CD-PLAYER Swipe Bag," which appears to take direct inspiration from Sony's Walkman CD-players of the aughts.

A single photo posted to the brand's Instagram teases the bag's sleek silver-grey frame, with a simple grayscale screen crowded with skip and pause/play buttons. A set of wired headphones snakes around the side.

And those headphones aren't just for show; the disc player will apparently be a fully functional music player, with the brand noting that it can be charged via USB-C. But will the bag's interior fit anything more than a flip phone and your favorite Lip Smacker from Claire's?

Sony's original "Discman" debuted in 1984 and became known as the CD Walkman around the world by 2000. Those old enough to remember carrying around a CD Walkman may also recall that some models had to be used while lying flat and that moving the device ever so slightly could cause the CD playing inside to skip. Hopefully, Coperni will be using 2023-era tech to ensure that those turn-of-the-century hiccups stay in the past.
