It was fun while it lasted, but Corey Lewandowski is hopping back on the Trump train.

The former Trump campaign manager resigned from his job CNN on Friday, having joined the cable news network as a contributor earlier this year.

CNN broke the news.

Lewandowski was let go from the Trump campaign in June, and joined CNN shortly thereafter. Lewandowski remained on the Trump payroll, though both sides claimed these were severance payments.

Lewandowski's role at CNN drew widespread criticism, as it was seen by many as the network willing giving free airtime to the campaign.

The news on Friday drew a similar response.

Lewandowski's next step isn't yet clear, though CNN reported that he was seen entering Trump Tower on Friday. Trump Tower, for those who don't know, is basically across the street from the Time-Warner Center, CNN's New York City home.

Lewandowski became a high-profile figure after he forcefully grabbed a Breitbart reporter at a Trump event in March. Lewandowski denied the act. Video later proved he had indeed grabbed the reporter.

Media Twitter predictably went to town on CNN:
