I used dating AI to make a mixtape for Donald and Melania Trump and the results are predictably horrifying

A new mixtape generator uses photos to create a playlist for you and your partner.

Once upon a time, making a mixtape was a simple act of love. Those days are officially over. Now it’s an act of artificial intelligence.

There’s a new app that will generate a mixtape for you and your significant using AI and your photos. Couple’s Mixtape, which was created by online suit rental company The Black Tux, analyzes pictures of any pair and spits out 10 to 15 songs it thinks will speak to the relationship.

I tried it using one of America’s most famous couples, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania, and the results were... both disturbing and spot on. For instance, the first song it chose was Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It?”

Great question.

The generator named the Trump playlist “Red Wine + A Pelvic Thrust,” which in this context is a deeply upsetting image, but it did manage to gauge that they were both of a more advanced age and deliver songs mostly from the '70s and '80s.

It’s billing itself as “the world's first AI mixtape generator,” and you play your songs using Spotify. Yes, it's a fun tool to play around with, since you can really do it for anyone you have a picture of -- and who among us does not want to generate ridiculous playlists for our pets or our favorite celebrity couples?

But will it change the mixtape game for good? Probably not. It shouldn't be this complicated, especially when you can make your own personalized playlists (with actual emotion behind them) on Spotify in under five minutes.

The whole point of a mixtape is to be a heartfelt token that tells a crush you're interested or cement a budding relationship, and even in this tech-obsessed era an automatically generated list of songs based on two random photographs is probably not enough to seal the deal.
