President Barack Obama has ordered a full review of cyber attacks and other hacking-related activities into the 2016 presidential election, homeland security adviser Lisa Monaco told reporters Friday.

Monaco said Obama expects a report by U.S. intelligence agencies before he leaves office on Jan. 20.

“We may have crossed into a new threshold and it is incumbent upon us to take stock of that, to review, to conduct some after-action, to understand what has happened and to impart some lessons learned," Monaco told the media during a breakfast arranged by the Christian Science Monitor, according to Politico.

U.S. intelligence officials have officially accused Russia of attempting to disrupt the 2016 election by hacking into the computers of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign emails.

Ahead of the election, the FBI warned state election boards to be on alert — though they may be powerless to do much about significant attacks.
