Scary video shows dad saving kid slipping from roller coaster after seatbelt malfunctions

A quick-thinking dad in Texas was able to prevent his son from slipping out of a roller coaster after his seatbelt malfunctioned. And he was able to hold his phone and film the whole thing.

Delbert Latham and his family were enjoying a night out at Wonderland Amusement Park in Armarillo, Texas when he and his son Kaysen decided to ride a small roller coaster called the Mousetrap.

Delbert, who shared a video of their experience to Facebook, said Kaysen's seatbelt came unhinged, and he had to hold onto the boy for the remainder of the ride to make sure he didn't slip out. 

"Our seatbelt came apart on the Mousetrap and Kaysen slid to the bottom of the floor board and I had to grab him and pull him back up and hold him for the rest of the ride," Delbert posted on Facebook.

But what's even scarier is that Delbert claims the staff knew about the faulty belt. 

"When I told the guy at the end of the ride he stated that he knew that had happened sometimes," Delbert said on Facebook.

Then, Delbert also claims that the ride operator continued to let people on the ride after being informed of the problem. 

Since the video has gained traction online, the amusement park has issued a statement, saying that the car containing the broken belt was removed, and the ride was fixed by Saturday. 

"Wonderland immediately reached back out to Mr. Latham the evening it happened and promptly removed the back cart from the ride and ensured all other seatbelts were in proper working order. The Mouse Trap was back in full operation on Saturday," the company said in a statement.

Wonderland also said the ride was originally built without any belts at all.

"This particular ride was originally built without seatbelts, but Wonderland later added belts as an extra safety measure, Wonderland said in a statement.
