Sorry, Mischa Barton: Nyle DiMarco is our early fave on 'Dancing With the Stars'

The season premiere of "DWTS" sees strong performances from an "ANTM" winner and a Boys II Men singer, but others disappointed.

Monday's season premiere of Dancing with the Stars may have been one of the most impressive yet.

Not only did seven couples crack scores of 21, but this year's field is filled with strong contenders.

Among them? GMA's Ginger Zee and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Boys II Men singer Wanya Morris and Lindsay Arnold and America's Next Top Model Winner Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd, who all scored 23/30 points.

In regards to Nyle, though, the judges were particularly impressed by his quick chemistry with partner Peta. Because Nyle is deaf, the strength of their partnership is especially key, as she acts as his guide to stay on tempo.

Nyle sweetly credited his coach for helping him perform solidly in this first week.

I can see these two going far. We know Bruno certainly wants to see that too.

On the other end of the spectrum, we had the likes of Doug Flutie (15/30), Geraldo Rivera (13/30) and, sadly, O.C. star Mischa Barton (16/30).

Each scored in the teens and are in major danger next week.

Barton was arguably among the most anticipated cast members this season, but her dance skills simply weren't there on premiere night. Len Goodman was particularly tough on the pair, saying they spent much of their dance floor time "walking" -- a critique that nearly left her in tears.

Barton, of course, couldn't have been taken completely off guard. During her pre-dance package, it was clear she was struggling during the rehearsals. Dancing did not come naturally to her, despite her claiming she's "danced a lot in my life."

Does she deserve a second chance? I think so -- if only so we get that "California" dance we all want.
