Dancing With the Stars has crowned a new winner.

This season marked its end by handing a Mirrorball trophy to Nyle DiMarco, who with partner Peta put on strong performances all season and taught the viewing audience a lesson about perseverance in the process.

A large part of that credit should go to Peta, who adapted her teaching style to help her partner, who is deaf, keep the beat and stay in tempo. Nyle, too, stayed determined to rise above the rest all season, even in the face of sometimes unfair criticisms.

Their win comes one night after they performed what judge Carrie Ann Inaba called the best in DWTS history.

Their dance on Tuesday's finale also received perfect scores and a special message from Inaba, who thanked Nyle for his performance this season in sign language, a moment that brought him to tears.

In the end, the inspiring pair, whose final dance got them perfect scores, got the credit they were due.

Ginger Zee, meanwhile, placed third with partner Val. And Paige VanZant was runner up with Mark.
