'The Dark Crystal' is getting a Netflix series and all our childhood dreams are coming true

Netflix is taking us back to the world of Thra, more than 30 years after Jim Henson captured our imaginations with The Dark Crystal.

The streaming network has ordered a 10-episode prequel series to the beloved film, titled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Sure, it might sound more like a Transformers movie than a Henson fable, but we'll take what we can get.

Set years before the events of the original movie, Age of Resistance follows three Gelfling -- a gentle race played entirely by animatronic puppets in the original -- who discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power and set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.

The series will be brought to life by The Jim Henson Company, starring an ensemble of fantastical, state-of-the-art creatures created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Brian Froud, the original feature’s concept designer.

Now You See Me director Louis Leterrier will executive produce the series and direct, with Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (Life in a Year), and Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost, The 100) in charge of writing the show.
