Five nominations, five wins. The Thin White Duke's final run at the Grammys was a clean sweep.

David Bowie's Blackstar, the space-jazzed out swan song album that he dropped just days before his death a year ago, was nominated for five Grammy Awards, and swept them all: Best Rock Performance, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Recording Package, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Rock Song.

Best Rock Song was the only of the five given out during the Sunday night telecast on CBS; the other four were announced beforehand, leaving the sweep in doubt until showtime. But the 9 minute, 59 second cosmic dirge prevailed over Radiohead's "Burn the Witch," Metallica's "Hardwired," Twenty One Pilots' "Heathens" and Highly Suspect's "My Name is Human."

Believe it or not, Bowie had only won one competitive Grammy Award before Sunday -- Best Short Form Video for Jazzin on Blue Jean in 1985, despite being nominated a dozen times (17 total including this year's).

Bowie died Jan. 10, 2016, just after turning 69 and releasing Blackstar, his 28th and final studio record. Unbeknownst to his fans and many friends, he'd been battling cancer for months but was determined to finish and release the record.

Bowie's life was celebrated at last year's Grammys -- with a less-than-compelling medley performance by Lady Gaga -- but Blackstar had been release too late to be eligible in that year's ceremony.
