This 'dead cat' brought into an animal shelter was not all it appeared to be

LONDON -- Cats have nine lives, and all dogs go to heaven. But what about hand puppets?

When a distressed samaritan brought what he believed to be a dead cat to the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA), the bedraggled object turned out to be a dog - of the stuffed animal variety.

While shelter manager Steve Byrne was relieved to discover that the tragedy was considerably less severe, the pup did sustain a minor nose injury.

After checking the supposed deceased cat for a microchip or some form of identification, Byrne was delighted to be able to inform the concerned individual of the happy mistake. "Both the finder and I were extremely relieved and where an air of sadness had been at the GSPCA it soon turned to laughter."

This isn't the first time the GSPCA has been called in to deal with animals that turned out to be something different, including a blonde wig masquerading as an injured bird, a sick seal that turned out to be a duvet, and a pine cone that looked suspiciously like a hedgehog. However, Byrne confirms that "this has certainly turned out to be one of the most unusual we have ever seen."
