Netflix is ready to open up a new world of death and destruction.

The streaming service has debuted the first teaser trailer for Death Note, a creepy horror flick from The Guest and Blair Witch director Adam Wingard.

Based on the Japanese manga series, Death Note follows a young man (Nat Wolff) who comes across a book that allows him to kill anyone in the world, simply by writing their name in the pages.

He decides to use this power to unleash his own brand of vigilante justice, but as the bodies pile up, his actions attract the attention of an mysterious detective known only as L (Lakeith Stanfield).

Death Note hits Netflix August 25.
