Destined Rivals is the best-looking set to collect in the Scarlet and Violet era, in my opinion.

While Journey Together brought back Trainer Pokémon, Destined Rivals nailed it by bringing back fan favorites Giovanni and Team Rocket alongside Ethan, the protagonist from Pokémon Gold and Silver. The Secret Illustration Rares in this set just pop, such as Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex screaming nostalgia vibes from Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back (The First Movie) and Ethan's Ho-Oh ex throwing Generation One trainers back to Ash's first steps out of Pallet Town, witnessing the then-unannounced Pokémon Gold legendary Pokémon flying above.

My favorite card from Destined Rivals is actually quite cheap, as a regular Illustration Rare. I'm talking about Ethan's Typhlosion - 190/182, a masterclass in how Illustration Rares are done. There's so much action and emotion behind this cracking bit of artwork by GIDORA. The Destined Rivals Booster Bundle is a great way to grab six booster packs to rip open, and this is one of the cheapest ways to do it right now.

I love ripping open booster packs, but it can get ridiculously expensive quickly if you're looking for the grail cards of Destined Rivals. Of course, you could just get lucky and find what you're looking for, but it's a slim chance. With single Pokémon cards finding a new floor price-wise, it's a great time to just buy the cards you need and potentially save a small fortune.
