Residents of Delhi woke up this morning to a thick layer of fog, the first of what marks the beginning of winter season.

People in the Delhi-National Capital Region as well as other places in northern India such as Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab are reporting considerably reduced visibility on the streets, and noticeably cold temperatures.

According to Sky Met, Palam the visibility dropped to 400 meters between 6 am to 7 am in many of these areas, and places like Saket, R.K. Puram, AIIMS, Noida, and East of Kailash are impacted too.

The impact of low visibility was apparent quickly with slow movement of traffic at some places. Some flights and trains have been delayed, too. The projection by the Indian Meteorological Department suggests a carpet of fog will loom over northern India for the rest of the week as well.

Despite fog, the poor air quality level in New Delhi, at least, remains unchanged. The air quality as of 10 am was 274 AQI PM 2.5, which is categorized as "very unhealthy".

The dense fog today comes weeks after people in the Northern India lived through a thick layer of smog everywhere for nearly two weeks. The air quality at the time was north of 1,000 AQI PM 2.5 several times in a day.

People, meanwhile took to Instagram and Twitter with their fog photos. #DelhiFog has been trending on Twitter since morning today.
