Destiny's first foray into the world of esports is happening Tuesday, and it's a near-complete surprise to everyone.

Major League Gaming is hosting a best-of-five match ahead of the launch of the game's new multiplayer feature that allows players to create private PVP matches. You can watch all of the action unfold here at 1 p.m. ET.

Private matches mean its possible to run Destiny tournaments, opening the game up to the new possibility of developing a professional competitive scene. When the feature was announced, developer Bungie and publisher Activision did not say whether they would be hosting tournaments, but it looks like they are diving right in, probably thanks to MLG being owned by Activision.
