This very NSFW nativity scene is causing outrage in Spain
A peculiar nativity scene is causing outraged reactions in Spain.
Three ceramic dildos have been painted as Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus before going on display in the Non Sit Peccatum sex shop in Talavera de la Reina, near Toledo.
That naturally didn't sit well with Catholics in the town.
Hector Valdivielso, owner of the shop, said on his Facebook account that he was subjected to threats by people claiming to be offended by the artwork.
"A man with his wife ordered me to remove the offending scene and said that if I didn’t he would remove it himself," he said.
A recent threat, also reposted on Facebook, said: "Learn the word 'respect. There will be no more warnings. Heed my words if you want to see 2017."
After the shop sign was vandalised with the word "pecadores" (sinners), a crowd gathered around the shop to harass customers and Valdivielso was forced to withdraw the nativity scene, according to local reports.
He decided instead to hold a poll asking passerby to say whether it should be reinstated.
An overwhelming majority — 78.5% — voted for the artwork to be reinstated.
"People asked me not to give in to blackmail," Valdivielso said. "So it’s going back in the window."
