Everyone hop into the Spruce Moose bound for the couch, as Disney's bringing 600 episodes of The Simpsons to the UK. I said hop in.

The streaming service is finally set to launch in the UK on March 24, which means we're gearing up for a heaving month of content announcements bigger than a plate of steamed hams.

Disney confirmed this rather cromulent news in a tweet on Wednesday, confirming that 600 episodes of the show would be available to stream, alongside expected content from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

The news is particularly exciting for UK customers, as the inclusion of The Simpsons on the streaming platform for the UK rollout was not certain. Having acquired 21st Century Fox for a staggering $71 billion, Disney owns the rights to stream the show in the U.S.

However, as The Verge points out, UK service provider Sky owned the rights to Fox content before it was sold to Comcast by Disney and Fox in 2018, so the licensing situation for Disney+ was complicated in the UK. But on Tuesday, things changed, as Sky made a deal with Disney, a multi-year contract that will see Disney+ brought to Sky Q set top boxes in the UK and Ireland (streaming competitors Netflix and BBC iPlayer are already available on Sky Q).

According to a Sky representative talking to The Verge, new seasons of The Simpsons will be "co-exclusive" on Sky and Disney+, as well as the back catalogue (well, 600 of 670 eps at least). Mashable has reached out to Disney and Sky for further information on this.

It's exciting news for folks interested in signing up to yet another streaming service in the UK, whether you really need one or not.
