London's lakes and ponds have been freezing over, which has proven a problem for pet owners. Unknowing pups can find themselves in dangerous predicaments.

One London woman experienced this when her dog fell through the surface of an icy pond at Alexandra Palace on Monday. She leapt into action, climbing into a lifesaver before wading through the freezing water to rescue the canine.

Thankfully both she and her dog are safe and unharmed.

In response to the increased frozen waters, the London Fire Brigade issued a warning for people to take caution and avoid stepping on the icy surfaces -- especially dog owners.

"Some people take astonishing risks, especially pet owners whose dogs have gone onto the ice," stated Community Safety Group Manager Mark Hazelton.

"If your dog or any other animal ends up on the ice, stay put and call 999 so firefighters can rescue it, rather than taking risks yourself."
