These dogs dressed up and went to the opera

An opera on Sydney Harbour is already pretty neat adventure in itself, but getting to take one's dog along makes it so much better.

An opera on Sydney Harbour, Australia is already a neat adventure in itself, but getting to take one's dog along makes it even more exciting.

That's what people did on Sunday, as Opera Australia hosted a doggie day for humans and their canine companions, all in support of animal rights organisation RSPCA New South Wales.

Dressed up and ready to strut their stuff, the dogs took to the stage in a costume competition, then howled along to a one-off performance of Nessun Dorma (or dog-ma, that should perhaps be) performed by Opera Australia's principal artist Simon Kim.

There was a stylish pug in a tuxedo, Batman and a lion, but ultimately, Hugo, a three-year old French Bulldog won the dress-up competition with his dinosaur-inspired costume.
