Donald Trump finally responded to Kathy Griffin's bloody Trump photo

In the words of Kathy Griffin, Kathy Griffin "went too far."

The comedian shocked the internet on Tuesday after TMZ revealed a pre-released photo from one of Griffin's recent photoshoots. In the photo, Griffin stands holding a fake, bloody decapitated head of Donald Trump.

After the photograph received serious backlash online from both Democrats and Republicans, Griffin posted an apology video admitting the photograph was wrong.

"I sincerely apologize," says Griffin. "I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn't funny. I get it."

She also begged fans for forgiveness and vowed that the photographer would take down the image.

But Donald Trump doesn't seem too satisfied with her apology.

On Wednesday morning he tweeted, explaining that Griffin should be "ashamed" for the "sick" photograph, saying the image greatly upset his children.

The president wasn't the only Trump to express outrage over the photo. Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., responded to the graphic photo, explaining he believed CNN should ban Griffin from future shows.

Then, before his father's tweet this morning, Trump Jr. tweeted concern for his own young children. He called Griffin's apology "phony" and shared he would likely have to explain the image to his eight and ten-year-olds who could very well hear about the graphic image or see it at school.

According to an Editorial Producer at ABC News, Melania Trump also released a statement on the photograph explaining she found it disturbing as "a mother, a wife, and a human being."

Trump's daughters Ivanka and Tiffany, and his son Eric have yet to tweet about the photograph.

On Wednesday afternoon the backlash surrounding the photograph continued. The official Twitter account for CNN's communications team announced that Griffin was scheduled to appear on a New Year's Eve broadcast, but the network had since terminated the deal.
