'Dota 2' fans might soon be watching matches in VR
Dota 2 could soon be the first competitive game fans can comfortably watch in virtual reality.
Valve Software, which makes both Dota 2 and the Vive headset (with HTC), released several teaser videos featuring current and upcoming VR platform features. In one, we're treated to a few seconds teaser of watching a Dota 2 match from the Vive.

The teaser starts about halfway through the above video. We see normal pectator mode of a Dota 2 match, but when our viewer turns their head, we see a tighter shot of one player's hero, complete with their items and skills.
There's also an aerial view of the game map, with icons for each player. Presumably, you'll be able to lean over any section of the map in VR to get a better view of the action.
Player and team stats also appeared as floating menu items, so it's likely this VR mode could integrate with large Dota 2 tournaments -- even Valve's own International.
The video didn't have a timetable for this feature, but with the next annual International tournament starting Aug. 8, it's likely to be sometime this summer.
