Download this: Could Oevo be the new Vine?
Oh, Vine. If there's one app whose disintegration still stings, Vine's definitely it.
But now, a new app is attempting to pick up where Vine left off. It's called Oevo, and the app will be refreshingly familiar to former Vine lovers.
The app, which is out for iOS and Android, features short, looping videos up to 7 seconds long. And the in-app camera lets you record in short bursts, so you can compose videos in very much the same style as your once favorite Vines.
But here's where Oevo (pronounced oh-ee-voh) puts a twist on the concept: the app pays users who make the top videos. The app offers daily contests where users who create the most popular clips can win real cash (there's a daily pot of $100 that gets split between the app's top 25 creators).
It may sound like a gimmick (and in some ways, it is) but it's helped attract a lot of users, including a number of well-known Vine personalities, to the platform in a short amount of time.
The content isn't yet up to the same quality as Vine was at its peak, but it's creative and funny and, yes, very weird. And, in the absence of Vine, that might just be exactly what the Internet needs right now.
