Wildly popular Canadian rapper Drake picked up the American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop album and gave a shoutout to his old fictional high school while accepting the award from former co-star, Nina Dobrev.

"Me and Nina were on Degrassi together, by the way, we've come a long way," Aubrey Drake Graham told the potentially uniformed Americans whose life may not have been enriched by the Canadian teen soap (yet).

Their crossover on the show was actually quite brief -- Dobrev came on board for season nine in 2009, which was Drake's final season of the show before he quit to be a rapper.

Don't worry, things turned out alright for him.
