Remember the terrible smell in ninth-grade biology when you dissected a frog? That's formaldehyde, and Dyson's new air purifier destroys it.

The Dyson Pure Cryptomic boasts many of the same features as the company's previous air-purifying fans and heaters. Dyson says its built-in microfiber filter senses and captures 99.97% of air pollutants as small as 0.3 microns, including allergens, bacteria, pollen, mold spores, and toxins emitted from everyday household items, which are displayed in real-time on an LCD display.

What sets this new air-purifying fan apart, though, is its ability to not only filter but also destroy one of these air pollutants, formaldehyde — a colorless, flammable gas that can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat. Dyson does this with a chemical process that transforms the toxin into water and carbon dioxide, which the company claims is less than what a mouse gives off breathing in a day.

Both models deliver streams of cool, purified air that permeate the whole room, but only the latter is equipped with thermostat heat control. Both models are available in either white and gold or gunmetal and bronze.
