Some of us would love to raise a glass to the literary legend that is J.K. Rowling. But, lucky drinkers in Edinburgh can do one better now, after The Conan Doyle pub changed its name to The J. K. Rowling.

The pub's original namesake Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born close to the pub's location at York Place, Edinburgh, and a statue of his detective creation stands over the road.

While many residents of Auld Reekie are scratching their heads at the sudden and somewhat confusing name change, there's actually a pretty good explanation for it.

The name change is actually just temporary. It forms part of a literary event which aims to showcase the streets and buildings that have inspired some of Edinburgh's finest writers.

Harry Potter fans will recall that J.K. Rowling was living in Edinburgh when she wrote the book, and she drew inspiration from many of the city's landmarks.

People wanting to take part in the literary installation can download the Message From The Skies app throughout January and use it while walking the streets of Edinburgh, listening to the stories behind some of Scotland's best-known writers.

The pub will revert back to its original name at the end of January. So, Sherlock fans can take a deep sigh of relief.
