Officer Edward Nero, who was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office, was acquitted of all charges by Judge Barry Williams on Monday morning.

Nero's verdict is the first to come down among the six officers implicated in Gray's arrest and death.

Officer William Porter was the first to go on trial, but that trial ended in a hung jury and was rescheduled.

Gray died after injuries inflicted and/or sustained after he was thrown into the back of a police van following an arrest in April, 2015. His arrest was followed by weeks of unrest that saw citizens clash with police.

Nero's charges are not the most severe levied against any of the officers.

Four officers face charges of manslaughter, and one faces an additional charge of second-degree murder.
