If you're Elijah Wood, and happen to make the decision to ride a scooter, you had better believe you're going to become a meme.

On Monday, novelist C. Robert Cargill captured what can only be described as a truly stunning image.

"Nothing to see here," he wrote. "Just Elijah Wood riding by on a rental scooter."

The photo is even more glorious than the caption would suggest.

That image was taken in Austin, Texas at Fantastic Fest, where Wood's production company SpectreVision is showcasing their virtual reality game Transference.

It wasn't long before the photo was well on its way to meme status.

Then, on Tuesday evening, it took a path all truly meme-worthy photos are destined to tread: the inevitable Reddit photoshop battle.

The vast majority of the jokes revolved, unsurprisingly, around everyone's favourite hobbit. Here he is riding a scooter while wearing the one ring, for instance.

And here he is cruising to Mordor in style.

Finally, here he is reunited with the fellowship, at last.
